DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY
Agronomy plays a crucial role in modern agriculture by enhancing crop productivity through scientific and sustainable practices.
It focuses on understanding the relationship between crops, soil, climate, and management techniques to improve agricultural output.
Agronomists develop region-specific cropping systems and recommend soil fertility management practices to maintain long-term soil health.
Efficient use of water through advanced irrigation methods and balanced fertilizer application are key contributions of agronomy.
The field also supports integrated pest, weed, and disease management to minimize crop losses while reducing the reliance on chemicals.
With the growing impact of climate change, agronomy promotes the development of climate-resilient and drought-tolerant farming methods.
It encourages sustainable agriculture through conservation tillage, crop rotation, and organic farming. Precision agriculture, which uses IoT and AI to optimize input use, is another area where agronomy plays a leading role.
By minimizing environmental impacts and promoting eco-friendly practices, agronomy ensures the sustainability of natural resources.
It directly supports food security by improving the efficiency and profitability of farming systems.
Overall, agronomy is the foundation of productive, profitable, and sustainable agriculture.
The Department of Agronomy is well established in the college premises. The department contains one laboratory (1650 sq. ft.) in the main building. A well equipped Agro meteorology Laboratory and an automated weather station have been established in the college farm as per the IMD standards. (Latitude is 15° .805ʹ, Longitude is 79°.258ʹ and Altitude is 262 ft). Size of the observatory 55 X 36 m.
Every season the Department grows several crops and maintains crop cafeteria with field crops, oil seeds, fibre crops, fodder crops, etc. to expose the students to practical crop production. The laboratory displays various implements, herbariums of various weed plants, different types of fertilizers, manures, seed samples, etc. to enrich the knowledge of students.Students are also trained in various instruments used in recording the weather data. Students are assigned to take meteorological observations on daily basis and display the weather data in the notice board of the college.
Student life
The college provides comprehensive academic support, financial assistance and personalized out reach efforts in order to serve community of students, faculty & staff. In addition, by utilizing highly effective business, administrative and student information systems, the office provides advocacy for the colleges academic departments & programme.
